Charlestown

Massachusetts

The client purchased this Charlestown property upon moving back to Boston from North Carolina. She soon approached me about helping with the interiors. What started as a “kitchen and bathroom project” ended up being a full gut renovation with not a wall untouched in order to optimize the space for entertaining as well as maximizing storage.

We completely reconfigured the space which allowed us to increase the size of the primary bathroom and closet, guest bathroom, plus add a pantry and a laundry room with side by side washer and dryer. We designed and installed a custom-made brass shelving system to keep sightlines clear from the kitchen to the living room and tv, plus views of the harbor beyond, while not compromising on storage.

Given the location near the harbor, we incorporated a round motif in the kitchen cabinetry and guest bedroom which is meant to echo a porthole. We added built-in cabinetry throughout. Not only do they add substantial storage, but they also conceal the inconsistent mansard roof conditions throughout the condo. We added a flat stock crown molding to trick the eye into thinking the ceilings are higher than they are.

It was also important to the client that the space both look clean and be easy to clean, decisions that drove many of the textiles and furnishings. Additionally, it was required to be well configured for entertaining. She is constantly hosting guests so she needed a large coffee table and maximum living room seating. We had the dining table custom-made to extend for large dinners.
